Elizabeth D. Harmon, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CNE, CCHP

Dr. Elizabeth Harmon is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice Program and a founding member of the National Association of Family Nurse Practitioners (NAFNP), where she also serves as Co‑Chair of the Education Committee. She received her BSN from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1978 and her MSN and DNP from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2001 and 2013, respectively. She is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner.

A first‑generation college graduate from a western Pennsylvania milltown, Dr. Harmon began her career as a registered nurse working across hospital disciplines, including general duty, multiple intensive care units, and supervisory roles. After a lengthy career at the bedside, she pursued advanced education with a focus on primary care across the lifespan. During her graduate program, she was awarded the Rural Health Fellowship, which allowed her to address healthcare disparities and barriers to primary care. Her doctoral project centered on shared decision‑making in the primary care setting to improve outcomes.

Dr. Harmon joined MUSC as clinical faculty in 2003, became an instructor in 2013, and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2018. She is also a certified nurse educator (CNE) and certified correctional health professional (CCHP). Her extensive clinical practice experience provides a strong foundation for preparing the next generation of advanced practice registered nurses. As Lead FNP, she guides the FNP student body, and as Practice Lead with the Office of Practice, she supports APRN providers. Her passion for excellence in healthcare and her leadership within NAFNP underscore her commitment to advancing education, advocacy, and practice for Family Nurse Practitioners nationwide.
